craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy has its roots in Osteopathy. With a focus on individual bones in relationship to the whole, it is a gentle, non-manipulative bodywork approach that facilitates freedom of movement and vitality throughout the whole body. It uses light hands-on touch to enhance the inherent circulation of fluids in and around the central nervous system. The treatment often induces a feeling of deep calm that is nourished by the subtle re-alignment of structures like the cranial bones and fascial membranes, brain, spinal cord, and sacrum in support of the natural flow of cerebrospinal fluid.

I practice craniosacral therapy with a Structural Integration lens, addressing the whole body as a relational and dynamic system of fluid pumps. Though the treatment focuses on the structures and joints around the cranium and sacrum, we’ll build a stable base of support for the changes we create in pelvis and head by treating the bones and joints, throughout.

My personal experience of receiving craniosacral therapy is one of being held, first by the practitioner, and then, by my own body and bones in gravity. The work feels supportive, grounded, and connected to something bigger than myself. Craniosacral is the first therapy that began to alleviate chronic pain patterns from several intense falls and injuries in my teens. I bring elements of this work into every session, whether it is an SI series, a yoga practice, or a regular ole’ massage.
